These 20 healthy snacks that are 200 calories or less add up to good nutrition. The Ultimate Steak and Eggs Diet for Rapid Fat Loss(Note: See my previous article for the introduction to this weight loss series.)This is the simplest most effective diet you will find anywhere. It’s not fun or trendy, but it works like no other. So read the disclaimer below and then decide if it’s worth a try. Disclaimer: What follows is extreme. Not “Oh cool, I like extreme” extreme, but “Shit oh shit! How many calories in Scrambled Eggs, 2 large eggs w. 1 tbsp milk and 1 tsp fat. How do I get myself out of this?!” extreme. This is not a “balanced” diet. It is not a “healthy lifestyle” choice. It is not for wimps, sissies, or girly men. It is not for folks with medical or psychological conditions. In fact, it is not for any normal, sane, health- minded individual. So who is this for? It is for those who wish to lose extreme weight, extremely fast, and are willing to go to extreme lengths to do so.
So before you attempt the protocol, be sure to ask your doctor one very simple question: Will this kill me, doc? I already know his answer. So only if you’ve decided to ignore your doctor’s advice and are willing to take absolute full responsibility for what you put into your mouth should you proceed to read the rest of this article. Now that you know what you are getting into, let’s get down to the real meat and potatoes (or eggs, as it is). The steak and eggs diet is nothing new. It’s been practiced since at least the golden era of bodybuilding, and likely long before that – as evidenced by these two fellows. It was popularized by that famous guru of physical culture, Vince Gironda. Gironda used the diet to attain a level of leanness never before seen back in his day. His method was simple: two meals a day, breakfast and dinner, consisting solely of steak and eggs cooked in butter. Every 4 days he would carb up to replenish his glycogen stores. That’s it. He passed his method on to the great bodybuilders of the 6. The steak and eggs diet, Gironda style, is highly effective, no doubt about it. But we’re going to take it a step further. How do you take a near perfect weight loss diet and make it even more effective? Intermittent fasting. That’s right. We’re going to take the greatest fat loss diet of all time and combine it with the greatest fat loss method of all time. Fuck yeah! Here is the protocol. Do not stray from it. I will hunt you down. Monday thru Thursday. One meal per day consisting of 1. Feel free to have up to 3 glasses of red wine as well. For the remaining weekend day, anything goes. Eat and drink to your heart’s content. Now I’ll confess, I sometimes add a few slices of bacon to my steak and eggs. I figure it counts as steak so I don’t sweat it. As for drinks, you are allowed the allotted wine but no juice or soda (diet or otherwise). You may also have a couple mugs (not thermoses) of coffee with heavy cream only. The rest of your fluids will come from water, and you had better drink plenty of it. There is to be no counting of any kind while on this diet (unless you want to count the pounds you’ll be shedding). Forget about calories, protein, fat, etc. Just eat your damn steak and eggs. How will you know if you’ve eaten enough? Simple, eat until you’re slightly disgusted and then eat a bit more. I usually struggle to get through the last third or so of my meal. You’re only eating one meal a day so man up and get the most out of it, even if you’d rather stick that fork in your eye. As with any change in lifestyle, temporary or otherwise, there are certain consequences to be aware of, both positive and negative. We might as well start with the negative. Above all you will become sick and disgusted of eating steak and eggs. Sick and fucking disgusted! Accept it now or don’t even attempt this diet. I told you this will not be fun. You may become constipated in the first week or two if you’ve never strayed from your AHA approved high- fiber diet before. Conversely, you might instead get the runs if you’re new to such a high fat diet. In the beginning you may have trouble adjusting to one meal a day. For someone used to eating 3 times a day (or 5- 7 times as is often prescribed) the sudden switch to once per day eating can be quite the shock. You may get severe hunger pangs as your regular meal times near. This is temporary so just tough it out. A more serious problem to be aware of is salt depletion. No other diet will have you shedding so much water, and with that water will go all your electrolytes. If you become faint when standing quickly, or start getting nighttime leg cramps, you are probably salt depleted. To avoid this problem, salt the hell out of your food. I cannot emphasize this enough, but I’ll try. If your food doesn’t taste like a salt lick then you haven’t added enough. If you absolutely cannot salt your food enough, then just mix some salt in a glass of water (it should taste just shy of sea water) and chug it down quickly. Don’t puke. If you’ve made it this far then you’re quite the trooper so I’ll introduce you to some of the benefits you will reap. First and foremost you will see massive fat loss in record time. Assuming you’re eating enough with each meal and engaging in some sort of physical training (running back and forth to the john to “shed some water” doesn’t count) then you will actually lose relatively little lean mass. You will also see a huge water drop in the first couple weeks. This will quickly move the scale downwards and may reduce lower leg edema (if you’re edema prone). It may also result in a significant drop in blood pressure (even if you are salting the hell out of your food). Once you get into the swing of things you will rarely suffer from hunger. There is nothing more satiating than a massive pile of fat and protein – eat a huge dinner of steak and eggs and you’ll hardly notice any hunger for the next 2. Your body is burning so much fat (both from your meals and body fat stores) that hunger becomes a non- issue, even with just one meal a day. After you have become fat- adapted you will find you are more focused and mentally alert. You will have energy to burn and your motivation levels will reflect that. So enjoy the extra productivity you have during the week – come the weekend, you will crash hard after your carb up (and you will carb up, trust me). So what makes this diet so damn effective? Well, as stated earlier we are combining a classic ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. Ketogenic diets are super low carb, high fat diets that induce a state of ketosis which has you burning fat out the wazoo. Add intermittent fasting on top of that and you’ve created the perfect conditions for dropping fat fast. And I do mean fast. You will see noticeable changes in just a couple weeks (likely even after the first week). So please be aware . Rapid weight loss can result in loose hanging skin. It would be better for you to practice this diet in phases. Perhaps a few weeks of the steak and eggs diet separated by a few weeks of a more typical low to moderate carbohydrate diet. Patience will pay off in a tighter physique by the time you reach your weight loss goal. However, if you are already leanish (2- 4 pack with a bit of jiggly low back and belly fat) then just a few weeks on this diet will get you more than beach ready, and another few after that might just have you freakin’ shredded. And if you’re not so leanish, this diet can get you there quicker than any other. So there you have it. The single most effective fat loss diet in existence (short of total starvation). But it takes balls.

Disease Types . The most common cause of this type of blow is being hit by a car. A liver lobe can be fractured and bleed into the abdomen, even leading to death. A more common occurrence is a bruise (contusion) that heals itself. Heatstroke, diaphragmatic hernia and liver lobe torsion can also cause liver problems. Pancreatitis. The severe inflammatory process that occurs with digestive enzymes can spill over into the liver and cause severe disease. The close proximity of the pancreas to the liver and the bile ducts results in some degree of hepatitis whenever there is a case of pancreatic inflammation. Of the three body types, the mesomorph puts on weight and loses it relatively easy with the right diet and exercising routine. Some of Mesomorphs' characteristics are. Treat the pancreatitis and the liver disease will regress. Anemia. Hemolytic anemia can decrease the oxygen available to liver cells and lead to their death. An inflamed liver is called hepatitis. Trauma can cause this, along with drugs, viruses, bacteria, bile, and toxins. Infectious Hepatitis. Typically caused by either an adenovirus or a herpes virus. Transferred from dog to dog by oral contact and ingestion. Usually only causes a transient non specific illness characterized by lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Body Type Quiz History. Treatment is geared to support while the body fights off the bug. Prevention is by vaccination. Bacteria, viruses, and fungi can all cause liver disease. Since bacterial infection is common in many liver problems it is routine to use antibiotics when treating liver problems. Specific diseases include Infectious canine Hepatitis, canine Herpesvirus, Leptospirosis, abscesses, histoplasmosis, coccidiomycosis, and Toxoplasmosis. Several bacterial causes of hepatitis are known. Treatment is based on a proper diagnoses and appropriate antibiotic use. There is good proof that the bacteria is a normal inhabitant of the liver and only becomes a problem when the liver is injured form other causes. There are notable exceptions.*Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection common in wildlife and transferable to domestic animals andpeople through contaminated water. Dangerous, possible fatal, but the vaccine is quite good for prevention. Certain parasites will infect the liver. Typically the likelihood of parasitic infestation depends on the area you live in. Diagnosis is often based on symptoms, fecal examination, and standard diagnostic techniques for liver disease. Treatment is the use of appropriate parasiticides. Chronic Hepatitis*Copper storage Diseases. Primarily found in Bedlington Terriers, Doberman Pinschers, and. West Highland White Terriers. These are all genetically inherited diseaseswhich result in abnormal and toxic levels of copper to be stored inthe liver. The course of the disease is variable, some presenting withacute hepatitis, many presenting in end stage cirrhosis of the liver. Diagnosis is based on liver biopsy. Treatment requires the use of copperbinding drugs, anti inflammatory to decrease liver inflammation, dietarymodification to limit copper uptake. Chronic Active Hepatitis. Types and Causes of Canine Liver Disease. Animals that receive a severe and blunt blow to the front of the abdomen can suffer from liver disease. In humans there is a chronic form of hepatitis characterized by chronic elevation of liver enzymes and biopsy samples showing scarring and active inflammation. The underlying cause for this entity falls into one of three categories: viral induced, toxin induced, and immune mediated. There is some question as to whether a similar syndrome exists in dogs. There has been cases which did show chronic elevation of the liver enzymes over weeks to months), symptoms characteristic of liver disease ill defined malaise), and a response of anti inflammatory treatment to limit the ongoing inflammation and scarring of the liver. At this time recommendationsfor treatment are that moderate or intermittent disease should only receive supportive therapy or basic nursing, while deteriorating chronic cases should receive steroid based anti inflammatory. If the case shows poor response, biopsies should be referred to a pathologist for evaluation in an attempt to find the underlying cause. In some cases it may be necessary to use strong immune suppressant drugs to stop the destruction of the liver. Hepatoportalfibrosis. Disease primarily of the blood supply to the liver. Diagnosed by very specialized radiograph techniques which measure and visualize the blood flow through the liver; Biopsy critical for diagnosing locationof lesion. Heartworms. These worms can block blood flow into the liver and cause liver failure. Any disease that can cause failure of the right side of the heart can also cause liver problems. Toxins. Primary disease is caused by the ingestion, injection, or inhalation of a toxic substance which adversely affects the liver. Due to the central nature of the liver with regards to detoxification of chemicals, it is no surprise that many are harmful to the liver. Factors contributing to the disease are: Gender (females more susceptible), fatty diets more dangerous, continuous exposure, high levels of exposure to toxins. Exposure results in death and inflammation of the liver cells, followed by replacement of damaged tissue by fibrous scarring. This can be a self perpetuating cycle, resulting in cirrhosis of the liver. Toxins include many common drugs, such as acetaminophen, ASA, anabolic steroids, chemotherapy drugs, some antibiotics, glucocorticoids, anaesthetics, parasite control drugs, and phenylbutazone. Some of the drug induced hepatitis is a predictable side effect of the drug, while other incidences of hepatitis are considered an unpredicted or abnormal side effect of the drug. This is difficult to diagnose unless there is a known exposure to the drug or toxin and the appropriate tests are taken. Biopsy will confirm liver destruction, inflammation, and fibrosis, but it will not single out the causative agent. Glucocorticoid Hepatopathy. Dogs seem abnormally sensitive to glucocorticoid drugs (“cortisone”) and will develop typical lesions in the liver after multiple dose therapy or long term over production of intrinsic cortisone by the adrenal gland (Cushing’s disease). Lesions are fairly typical and the rare animal which shows liver associated symptoms during glucocorticoid therapy will improve with the removal of the steroids. Liver associated lesions may take weeks to months to heal. Anticonvulsant Associated Hepatopathy. Phenobarbital, primidone, phentoin, May cause liver disease in 6 to 1. Inflammation seems related to dose. Degree of disease is variable and unpredictable. Diagnoses based on history, symptoms, laboratory tests, and biopsy. Treatment is removal of offending agent. There are literally thousands of chemicals that could be toxic to the liver. A few examples of these chemicals that are commonly used to treat ill animals include: Rimadyl (arthritis treatment)Thiacetarsamide (heartworm treatment)Ketaconazole (fungal treatment)Tylenol (acetaminophen)Glucocorticoids (cortisone)Anthelmintics (worming medication)Parasiticides. Phenobarbital (epilepsy medication)Portal Vascular Abnormalities. Usually occurs when a portal- systemic shunt allows blood to pass from the digestive tract directly into the general circulation without being detoxified by the liver first. Usually a congenital defect restricted to young dogs and puppies, but can be the result of hepatic cirrhosis. Symptoms are never consistent, but many dogs are young, malnourished, chronically sick, poorly tolerant of toxins, drugs, and anesthetics, and tending to eat strange items (pica). Diagnosis is based on physical exam, history, laboratory tests, and specialized X- rays showing blood flow through the liver. Treatment is surgical correction of the circulatory abnormality to force the blood into the liver prior to it entering the general circulation. Cancer. Cancer can arise directly within the liver (primary) or spread from elsewhere (metastatic or secondary) through the circulatory or lymphatic systems. In the anatomy section we mentioned the dual blood supply to the liver; the portal vein and the hepatic artery. This extra blood supply increases the chance that a tumor in a different organ that has spread into the bloodstream will end up in the liver. As mentioned in the physiology section, liver cancer is usually detected only after the disease is well established, since functional reserve capacity allowed the liver to function normally for a prolonged period of time. Some of these liver cancers include: PRIMARY: Lymphosarcoma. Hemangiosarcoma. METASTATIC: Adenocarcinoma. Leiomyosarcoma. Mammary tumors. Oral carcinoma. Lymphosarcoma. Hemangiosarcoma. Metabolic diseases that cause secondary liver problems: Hypothyroidism. Diabetes Mellitus. Pancreatitis. Hyperthyroidism. Cushing’s Disease. Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Hypoadrenocorticism. Protein- losing enteropathy. Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis of the liver can occur as the end result of several liverdiseases, which may be why it is hard to find information on this condition as a separate entity. Cirrhosis can occur in copper storage diseases of the liver, as the end result of idiopathic chronic hepatitis (also called chronic active hepatitis, chronic canine inflammatory hepatic disease and probably other names), as a breed related disorder (several terrier breeds, Dobermans, Labs, cockers and standard poodles), due to anti- seizure medications and possibly due to carprofen and oxibendazole (a dewormer). It is sometimes the end result of infectious illnesses, especially leptospirosis and infectious canine hepatitis (pretty rare now). Of these conditions, the one that usually shows up without much warning is the idiopathic chronic hepatitis. This condition can sometimes go on for long periods of time with no really obvious clinical signs and affected patients may have markedly decreased liver size and function when the condition finally causes clinical signs. Even at this point it is often possible to help make patients feel better for some time, though. The 3 Body Types Explained. There are three general categories of Male & Female body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and Endomorph. Many people think that “body type” just describes the way a person looks, but your body type can also provide information about how you respond to food intake and your hormonal and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) characteristics. These factors can be linked to metabolic differences between individuals, and influence how you respond to diet and training. Understanding your body type will help you to strategically & successfully plan your strength training and diet regiment, and once you establish your body type, you can adjust nutrient intake to maximize fitness composition and health related goals. Very few people fall perfectly into one of the three categories, and are often a mix of the 3 characteristics. Also, training along with good nutrition can completely change the appearance of one’s body. One important thing to remember is that regardless of your body type, composition, or overall health status, your ability to handle carbohydrate- dense foods is greatly improved during and after exercise, meaning that the best time to eat the majority of starchy/sugary foods is around the times that you’re physically active. Depending on your body type, your carb tolerance is different and your strategy should be different. Ectomorphs. Ectomorphs are skinny with a small frame, light build, small joints and lean muscle. Usually they have long thin limbs with stringy muscles, narrow shoulders with a fast metabolism making this body type the most resistant to weight gain. Ectomorphs are often able to overeat, while gaining little, to no extra weight, they tend to have little body fat, muscle and bone mass. Ecto’s need a large amount of calories to gain weight, and workouts should be short & intense focusing on big muscle groups. Supplements like Whey Protein are definitely recommended, and they should eat before bed to prevent muscle catabolism during the night (use casein protein). Generally, ectomorphs lose fat very easily so cutting back to lean muscle shouldn't be a problem. Ectomorph Traits. Small “delicate” frame and bone structure. Classic “hardgainer”Flat chest. Small shoulders. Thin. Lean muscle mass. Finds it hard to gain weight. Fast metabolism. Food Intake: Because Ectomorphs are at a disadvantage due to their thin body structure, they struggle to add size to their frame when attempting to achieve their dream physique, and it will take some hard work and dedication. Because of their fast metabolic rate and a high carbohydrate tolerance, they burn calories too efficiently, preventing them from putting on weight, so diet is especially important. With a High Carb Tolerance, you should be eating a greater percentage of high carb foods all throughout the day. Get more carbs during/post workout than any other time of the day. Carb timing should include some starchy, whole grain, unprocessed carbs that are eaten at every other meal, while veggies and/or fruits (3: 1 serving ratio) should be eaten at each meal. Stick to quality sources of protein and healthy fats, but the occasional cheeseburger or slice of pizza is not going to make an ectomorph fat. Also, ectomorphs should use High Calorie weight gainer shakes to help them build mass, so it's smart to invest in a weight gainer powder if you don't have time to cook or just need that extra calorie boost. Eat more, more frequently, aim for 6- 8 meals spread over the course of the day, and always eat breakfast! This should be your largest meal, consisting primarily of complex carbohydrates and protein. Cheat days using Junk food can be a useful tool to the ectomorph trying to put on size without worrying about body fat. With anything, there are rules to how you must employ junk food into your daily diet to aid in gaining size and not just satisfying your taste buds. The selection of junk food should contain adequate amounts of protein to meet your needs, and used during your cheat days. Training. Strength Training with limited Cardio is best for Ectomorphs, and it is recommend to use simple routines with heavy compound movements and minimal isolation movements per muscle group. Since strength training also burns calories. You can incorporate a shock technique day using supersets. Rest time should be kept between 2- 3 minutes as much as possible. Take at least 1 rest day in between the last lifting day, and the optional superset day. Mesomorphs. Mesomorphs have a medium sized bone structure, athletic body, and they typically have a considerable amount of lean mass. Mesomorphs tend to be testosterone and growth hormone dominant, which leads to a predisposition for muscle gain and the maintenance of a lower body fat. The Mesomorph form is the best body type for bodybuilding, and responds the best to weight training, and gains are usually seen very quickly, even for beginners. The downside to mesomorphs is they gain fat more easily than ectomorphs, so they must watch their calorie intake more closely. Because of this, it helps to use combination of weight training and cardio during workout routines. Mesomorph Traits. Athletic. Generally hard body. Well defined muscles. Rectangular shaped body. Strong. Gains muscle easily. Gains fat more easily than ectomorphs. Food Intake. Mesomorphs typically do best on a mixed diet, consisting of balanced carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, with a macronutrient split of 4. Always remember that even for the physically blessed mesomorphs, inadequate nutrition equals little gain at the gym. Low- fat proteins such as nonfat Greek yogurt, Kefir, eggs, poultry and seafood build strong muscles and encourage muscle growth. Complex carbohydrates such as spinach and other green vegetables, whole grain foods and low- sugar fruits provide the mesomorph with enough energy to make it through demanding workouts. High- fiber foods such as beans increase feelings of fullness, and these items can help to avoid sugary binges. Also, while most athletes find water adequate, mesomorphs who perform more intense workouts may require speedier electrolyte replenishment with sports drinks or Powerades, and I offer many easy, healthy, delicious recipes for these items here in my website. Mesomorphs also tend to have a moderate carb tolerance, meaning you should likely minimize high starchy/sugary carb foods outside the workout window, except after an overnight fast such as for breakfast. This means you’d try eating some higher carb/starchy carb foods in the morning, as well as during/post exercise. The rest of the meals would consist of less dense carb foods and more lean proteins, veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds. Training. Mesomorphs are naturally strong and respond quickly to exercise. Multiple weekly resistance training sessions using moderate to heavy weights with limited rest between sets, help mesomorphs build size. Do upper and lower body compound exercises using two to three sets of eight to 1. Endomorphs. Endomorphs have a larger bone structure with higher amounts of total body mass and fat mass, and this extra fat seems to resist most efforts to get rid of it. The endomorph body type is solid and generally soft, and gains fat very easily. Endo’s are usually a shorter build with thick arms & legs. Their muscles are strong, especially the upper legs, and are naturally strong in leg exercises like squatting. Football lineman and powerlifters are frequently classified as endomorphs. They also tend to be insulin dominant, leading to a greater propensity for energy storage, including both lean mass and fat mass, and also mean a lower carbohydrate tolerance. If your body isn’t instinctively telling you to get moving, you have to make sure that exercise is part of your daily routine. If your metabolism is sluggish, you need to eat the right foods that will fire up your metabolism. To put it plain as day, you need to bust your ass by exercising and eating right for your body type. Soft and round body. Gains muscle and fat very easily. Is generally short. Because they are not very carb tolerant, the best tactic is to avoid high carb/starchy carb foods outside the workout window (including breakfast). This means only proteins, fats, veggies and fruits outside the workout window. Also as we approach different stages in our lives, our hormones change and this can influence our body type. This includes stages such as puberty and menopause, as well as the male equivalent, andropause. Dense carb foods include whole grains like rice, whole grain breads, quinoa, amaranth, millet, corn, barley, dried fruits, yams, sweet potatoes, potatoes, recovery drinks, sugars, etc. Training. When it comes to training, endomorphs find it very easy to gain weight. Unfortunately, a large portion of this weight is fat and not muscle. To keep fat gain to a minimum, endomorphs must always train using cardio as well as weights. Endomorphic bodybuilders need to get their butts to the gym as often as they can without overtraining. Around four days of weight training throughout the week will ensure that the . Include cardio into each workout, and no matter if an endomorph is bulking or cutting, weight training should be the main focus. An increased amount of muscle mass will increase their base metabolic rate, decreasing their chances of storing/holding onto fat. Quick Reference Guide to Body Types. |
